Pace calculator

Enter distance and time to find your pace — or pace and distance to get the time. Also see speed, predictions for 5K, 10K, half and marathon, and per-kilometer splits.

What do you want to calculate

How pace is calculated

Pace is time divided by distance: 55 minutes for 10 km gives 5:30 per kilometer. Speed is the inverse — 60 divided by the pace in minutes — which is why 5:30/km equals 10.9 km/h. To do the math in your head and see more examples, read how to calculate running pace.

The prediction for other distances

We use the Riegel formula: known time multiplied by (new distance ÷ known distance) to the power of 1.06. It works well between nearby distances (5K → 10K, 10K → half). From 5K to marathon the prediction tends to be optimistic, because it assumes you trained enough volume for the distance.

The right pace for each workout

Race pace isn't training pace. Easy runs are 60 to 90 seconds per kilometer slower than 10K pace; the long run, 45 to 90 seconds; the tempo run, 10 to 20 seconds slower; intervals, at 5K pace or faster. See the pace chart and the glossary for the terms.

The right pace range in every workout, no math

In a PaceOn plan every workout already comes with pace, effort and HR zone computed from your real runs.
